In this study, the writer used descriptive method. The subject of the study was the teacher of English essay and the students of VII E at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Sumatera Barat. The researcher used lesson plans, field notes, and a questionnaire as the instruments to collect the data. The result of the implementation of teaching English essay keywords showed that the teacher rarely identified the English essay keywords. Hence, she did not give enough attention to the students’ skill of using English essay keywords. The students’ responses showed that the implementation of teaching English essay keywords was good. It can be concluded that the implementation of teaching English essay keywords at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Sumatera Barat was good and the students gave good responses to the implementation of teaching English essay keywords. Finally, the writer suggests that the English teacher should pay more attention to the students’ skill of using English essay keywords in English essay writing.

There are some elements that the students of English essay at SMP must master. Those elements are thesis statement, logical organization, grammar, punctuation, and English essay keywords. However, the students’ need of English essay keywords is ignored by the teachers. The objectives of this study are to describe the implementation of teaching English essay keywords and to describe the students’ responses of the implementation of teaching English essay keywords. The steps of the implementation of teaching English essay keywords are describing the using of English essay keywords, giving the examples of the using of English essay keywords, asking the students to make sentences containing English essay keywords, giving the exercises containing English essay keywords, and asking the students to make English paragraphs using some English essay keywords.
