1. Introduction

The idea is that we will need to work together as part of a team to achieve a defined healing goal using specific complementary and/or alternative medicine strategies. Although it’s understanding that as a complementary and alternative health practitioner you may already be in a setting where there are clients with a specific ailment in which you have used CAM treatment with good success. But for this project I would like you to consider picking someone in which your treatment resulted in either no change or perhaps the condition got worse. Now through detailed research and critical thinking I would like you to present the case, the treatment used, and your new strategy using evidence-based medicine in which you could help this patient. Below you will find a research proposal outline which has been formatted in a way that has clear detailed information as to what I am looking to achieve with this project. Please use headings in your written assignment to clearly demonstrate that you have accomplished each aspect of the outline. This project holds to be a healing guide using either complementary or an alternative solution in the aid of a patient with a specific ailment. This is a research assignment using evidence-based practice and a critical approach to analyze the situation and to make a comparative decision on a change in a previous strategy on a treatment for a particular ailment. The holistic health system is utilized to consider an overall benefit for the patient, not limited by a comparative decision to what the present mainstream medicine can achieve. This project will search to find the most suitable and specific alternative or complementary treatment for the patient, and through critical analysis compare this to the present mainstream medicine for this ailment. This assignment was written to fulfill the requirements in the Bachelor of Science Degree, Complementary and Alternative Health/Naturopathy Major at Griffith University, Gold Coast.

2. Research Objectives

The main purpose of this study is to determine the value of cleft surgery and speech therapy in correcting the speech defect of cleft palate patients. It is our belief that, at present, there is no reliable means of predicting to what extent surgery can correct the articulation of the patient. Moreover, the contribution which speech therapy can make, in addition to surgery, is not well understood. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate factors which influence outcomes of cleft palate speech treatment in the New Zealand population and to determine an appropriate treatment pathway for individuals. Specifically, the objectives of the study are to: – Quantify speech outcomes for cleft patients who have had primary palatal surgery at several time points in the growth and development for this group. – Compare speech outcomes for cleft patients who have had primary palatal surgery with and without different speech therapy intervention.

3. Methodology

There are many helpful ways of determining your methodology, such as learning about research design and methodology from other Masters students who have gone through the process. But remember that you should search for similar studies conducted in your area (or a related area) of interest. You can see what kind of methodology they have used and whether there are any problems or limitations with their approach that you could learn from. Always seek to discuss your choice of methodology with your supervisor or a more experienced researcher. A methodology for a Masters thesis could be different from that of a theory-based thesis, which would be different from a case study or a PhD, and so on.

Remember that the data types that are collected are decided by the aims and objectives of your research and choice of a hypothesis or a theory. There are some standard ways of testing these data types that will also have a bearing on your choice of methodology (what data analysis methods will be used).

Your research question often guides whether you will use a qualitative, a quantitative, or a mixed methods methodology to probe into your topic. But these are not ends in themselves, you must consider what alternative ways there are to investigate this question. Suggesting a clear rationale for your choice of methodology is a key aspect of the research plan.

Deciding on the research approach and methods Deciding on the research approach and the methods used depends on the nature of the topic being investigated. The methodology of a Masters thesis is by far one of the most critical success (or failure) factors. You want to pick a research methodology that makes sense for your topic, both theoretical and empirical.

4. Expected Results

The expected results section tells the reader what the researcher thinks will happen as a result of the proposed research study. This section is all about selling your idea, so it needs to be clear and concise. One to two paragraphs should be enough. Briefly outline the results and how this will contribute to solving the problem identified in the problem statement. Why the study is important: The results will remind the reader why this study is important. Expected results and their importance are often related to the justification of the study. If the results are not a beneficial and direct contribution to the current knowledge, there is a chance that the proposal will not be approved, so it is important to spell this out here to get the “nod of approval” from the reader. Paving the way for change: Tell the reader how this study will change current knowledge or solve a problem. What is the big picture here and what this study has resulted to achieve. Short-term and long-term benefits: Outline the short-term and long-term benefits of the results to the participants and stakeholders. This will help the reader understand the implications of the results of the study.

5. Conclusion

Creative devices In a study aimed at identifying the factors, motivational or design in second level education that contribute towards the uptake and usage of ICT, a great deal of creative devices could be employed. Inspired by a similar piece of research carried out into the uptake of ICT in community primary schools, where students were given digital cameras and asked to create a diary of how they use ICT, this could be translated to the second level by getting individuals or groups to create a multimedia diary of a day/week in their lives. This was an enlightening experience for the pupils involved and could be promoted to teachers as a possible classroom activity. A model or questionnaire or audit for students or teachers could be another good strategy to implement which we can then use to gather data on student and teacher perceptions.
