Financial Need Scholarship Essay

1. Introduction

The primary intent of this essay is to present all of my application materials for consideration for the scholarship. The committee will consider my grades with this application as well, but I want to ensure that they have the fullest representation of who I am and what I can accomplish given the opportunity to further my education. This essay elaborates on the meaning of the financial need for the scholarship, as well as what scholarship would do for my educational goals. When I think of the phrase “financial need”, I automatically think of the hassles of looking for money for textbooks, school supplies, housing, and tuition, as well as trying to juggle a full-time job to maintain my daily living expenses in addition to going to school. I have been faced with these challenges and I have not succumbed to them. By earning a degree in business management with a minor in communication, and eventually a doctorate in HR development, I want to roll back into the inner city where my fiancé and I grew up and ultimately make education a realistic goal for everyone. With the knowledge and experience that I would gain through my education, I would work my way into education development by forming funded programs and scholarships to help students make the most of their education. This scholarship would be the stepping stone that I need to pursue my degree. I am a very determined and hardworking individual, and this is an opportunity that I would not let slip away.

2. Demonstrating Financial Need

B) Include an accurate representation of your current financial situation. Be sure to include a list of your assets and income, your parents’ income and assets, family size, and the number of family members currently attending college. This is useful for the counselor and helps them get a quick look at your current situation. Always know that your parents’ financial situation does have an effect on the amount of aid rewarded to you. If your parents do not claim you on their taxes as a dependent, any aid rewarded to you will most likely be significantly less.

A) State your need for financial aid. Frequently, the financial aid office has the ability to consider special circumstances such as a lay-off, a family illness, increased family financial burdens, etc., for an income re-evaluation. Provide as much information as possible. You can never be too thorough. If you do not provide enough information, a counselor might not be able to accurately determine your eligibility. This is applicable to those who have been denied financial aid. You might not want to share your “life story,” but if any of these examples has happened to you, it is in your best interest to let the counselor know. Always ask if special circumstances are considered. You don’t ask, you don’t get.

3. Academic Achievements and Goals

Since my childhood, I have been passionate about numbers, and this is the reason why I easily decided to pursue a 5-year bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Karachi, which is one of the best institutions in the country, especially in business education. Coming this far was an achievement in itself for me. Family financial problems have forced me to support my education on my own, which led me to work at different places part-time throughout my education. Although it was tough, it made me learn the value of money and how hard it is to earn a livelihood. I’ve recently completed my education in 2009, and with the help of all odd jobs, I managed to pay my educational fees and other expenses throughout the 5 years. While studying, I was advised by my teachers and classmates to start chartered accountancy, but I never felt comfortable going for it as chartered accountancy requires long working hours, which I can’t manage to study simultaneously, and it also requires hefty fees. Therefore, my goal for the future is to work in an environment that I love, that is related to accounting, finance, auditing, and tax, with a career relevant to my 5-year education in the best economical way possible. This scholarship will definitely help me to attain my goal.

4. Extracurricular Activities and Community Involvement

I’ve been a part of a plethora of clubs on campus and in 7th and 8th grade I took music classes at Focus on French Horn. From leadership skills to understanding the value of commitment and dedication, I have been able to experience numerous ways that I can better myself and others as a person. One of my first and proudest leadership roles was as captain of the cross country team my senior year. The first thing I did was to devise a plan to get some off-season running in so as a team we could be better prepared for the coming season. I got all the teams together at one time and we ran what would be known as the first ever “Benny Hill Run”. At first, I got a lot of criticism for trying to get these kids going and bring in some structure and discipline to what at the time was a very minuscule team in both numbers and commitment level. After that, they grew to love the idea for the secrets of the campus nooks and crannies had been revealed to us and we laughed ourselves into good shape. I think it was through my promotion of a lighthearted, hardworking, fun atmosphere that I was able to transform a team of boys who really cared very little about their own performance to the point where we were among the most improved teams in both the school and the league. After being elected as one of the senior captains of the track and field team, I hope to repeat and expand upon my success as a captain for the cross country team.

5. Conclusion

I believe in the importance of earning a college degree. Therefore, I hope to get a scholarship to meet my financial needs. This will enable me to continue to pursue my career goals. The education I will receive will be a great benefit and will help me get a good job in the future. This, in return, will enable me to provide a better living for my family. I understand the cost of attending college will be expensive, but I promise that I will make each and every dollar worth it. I will work very hard to take full advantage of the opportunity that I will have when I become a college graduate. I will also help out my community, which will benefit people. My scholarship will be spent on tuition, books, and supplies. The least that I can do is try to give back to my parents any financial burden. I feel that with my credentials, I will be worthy to receive a scholarship to attend this school due to my academic potential, educational interests, and financial need.
