In the 1920s, it became apparent to the IU faculty that in order to meet the needs of the commercial marketplace in Indiana, the university would have to look beyond the walls of the Bloomington campus. Businesses in both Indianapolis and in other major cities in the state expressed an interest in working with the university to promote and develop commercial and banking education. By creating a facility on the east side of Indianapolis that would be readily accessible to part-time students as well as to the business community, the Kelley School of Business at Indianapolis was born.
