End-users writing and sharing recipes vary; from the casual user who has a single recipe to share with friends to the food enthusiasts who author and share hundreds of recipes. With recipe web sites attracting a diverse user population, we must understand the needs, tasks, and user capabilities to address the important user experience factors that include: usability, task utility, functionality, and satisfaction.

2. Key Features of Recipe Writing Apps

2.2. User association with recipes For every recipe that is written, a user should also be associated with it. The application should allow for pictorial display of the author of every recipe, and also a user profile, which shows the ratings and comments that the author received from other users. To input the user’s bio, a surface, similar to social media applications like Facebook, can be created. Such a feature would be important to add additional context to the user creating the content being displayed, and also to authenticate contributors, without needing to credentialize them before the content is displayed.

Namely, we differentiate such platforms from existing systems by: (a) segregating the preparation/thought process from the writing process, (b) supporting the adherence to standard “good practice” when writing recipes, (c) providing means supporting the inclusion of extra unexpected functionalities, (d) guiding users in order to distinguish between the different aims and functionalities of each stated element, making clear that recipes can have context dependent complex entities with the proper separation of concerns.

4. Integration of Multimedia Elements for Enhanced User Engagement

The current how-to-write (Text) content is mainly represented within a textual format. To visualize the text-to-picture synthesis results, one direction is to engage in text-to-dataset analysis to provide intuitive multimedia search results to users for representing a text segment. Based on the user selection from the multimedia search results, the users will interactively search for a content template that is coherent with the workflow and textual information. A further direction is to engage in text-to-poha synthesis analysis to suggest proper multimedia places to provide enough visual and sound multimedia content. With the user intention of mapping text into the pictures of human activities (or poha), the suggested multimodal navigator can suitably provide phrases in natural language that (1) describe the necessary activity context of a target human, which helps identify what the human is doing; (2) identify what object is important to identify which phrase in the human activity dataset can help visualize the human activity; (3) describe what the human does, including proximal, agential, and ablatival actions; and (4) instruct the user step by step as a reference to real-time cooking. With the user intention of mapping text into cooking-related objects and the ingredient list graph, the suggested multimodal navigator can suitably provide phrases in natural language that help locate and understand the pictures of cooking-related objects, drawing the ingredient list, and recommending sound clips around the spatial locations on the identified recipe segments. With the users’ interactive free-ranging on the synchronized cooking videos and the dynamically suggested phrases and graph information, the users will collaboratively construct a ‘virtual’ cooking procedure for the semantic verbs, which makes the recipe an audiovisual multimedia-enhanced e-cookbook.

The most straightforward approach to enhance user engagement in mixed-reality applications is to activate multiple human senses and provide an interface that is much more natural than traditional interfaces. The current user interface of recipe writing applications is mainly text and picture-based and does not support the multimedia environment that facilitates user engagement. Here we suggest that the capabilities being studied in text-to-picture synthesis research can be applied to more intelligent how-to-write applications to provide a multimedia user interface that visually shows what type of multimedia information should be included at some natural breaks within the how-to-write procedure being created. We suggest research directions for seamlessly utilizing text, picture, voice, and augmented reality techniques to enhance user experience. With the enhanced multimedia user interface, we expect to increase user engagement, decrease contribution resistance, and let the recipe writer focus on the recipe content, including both the silent cooking process and dynamic cooking content.

5. Future Trends and Innovations in Recipe Writing Apps

Search and Indexing Needing’s indexing algorithm should be able to detect app patterns and suggest templates, recipes, or resources on the basis of words that the user is typing at a given time. It should be able to identify a specific part of a recipe for offering the user the specific tool for that and for automatically changing quantities in all of the related ingredients.
